The theme of 1 Peter is to encourage and assure the early Christians in their faith (I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace. 1 Peter 5:12 NLT.) Chapter 1 is about the great salvation we have in Christ. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 give examples of how Christians should live their lives with regard to believers and unbelievers. Finally, chapter 5 is dedicated to instruction to the elders in the church.
The key verses are: “But now you must be holy in everything you do. Just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, ‘You must be holy because I am holy’.” 1Peter 1:15-16 NLT.
