The theme of 2 Peter is to stimulate wholesome thinking and refresh your memory. When
people trust Christ, we do not become robots programmed to do the right things. We must be constantly thinking about the new things we have learned or recalling lessons to apply to new situations.
Chapter 1 is about the Christian life as it should be lived. Chapter 2 reminds us that the sinful life will be judged. Chapter 3 tells us about God’s ultimate plan so we can get our priorities in order. This helps us to grow in our faith and become more conformed to the image of Christ. “For God knew His people in advance and He chose them to become like His Son, so that His Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” Romans 8:29 NLT.
Key verses: “But you must not forget this one thing dear friends: a day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sakes. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:8-9 NLT.
