2 Samuel

Theme: Even one sin can ruin a good person’s life

The book of 2 Samuel is about the reign of David.  In his life, David did many more good things than evil ones, but he still showed his human sinful self.  Can you imagine experiencing only success when you’ve reached the pinnacle of your dreams and then find only heartache and despair after that.  That is what happened to David.

Christians sometimes think that a little sin will be alright.  It’s only between the two of us we think; yet that little sin can have great consequences later.  David had sex with the wife of one of his bravest soldiers; then, when he found out the woman was pregnant, he arranged for the soldier to be killed in battle.  In return, the baby died after birth, David’s oldest son raped his half-sister, the sister’s full brother killed his eldest brother and then tried to usurp the throne bat was killed in battle, and David’s wife’s grandfather betrayed David for revenge but committed suicide when the coup failed.
