2 TIMOTHY

Chapter 1 starts with a greeting to Timothy, an explanation of his (Paul’s) ministry, the grace of God given to the church through Jesus Christ, those who deserted Him, and praise for Onesiphorus. Chapter 2 gives encouragement and instruction to Timothy. Again, Timothy is reminded about people who like to argue about insignificant issues. In chapter 3, Paul adds some teaching about the “Last Days”. He writes about the problems of such teaching, how it affects the church, especially new or weak believers, and how they will be discovered to be fools after the damage is done. Chapter 4 completes Paul’s encouragement and instruction to Timothy. He also asks Timothy to come to Rome to see him before winter. Paul seems sure that he will soon die as this appears to be his second imprisonment.

The theme is to encourage Timothy. I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.  2 Timothy 1:5-6 NLT.
