Theme: How to have everything and lose it.
1 & 2 Kings and 1 & 2 Chronicles cover the same period of time generally from the death of David until the Babylonian captivity with a difference. 1 & 2 Kings covers the time from a historical view of both Judah and Israel until Israel is defeated by the Assyrians and taken off into captivity apparently never to return. The history of Judah (with Benjamin) is then continued until the Babylonian captivity in 586 B.C.
1 & 2 Chronicles covers the same period of time through the return from Babylon. These books deal primarily with the nation of Judah; Israel is only mentioned where and when the nations intertwine historically. 1 Chronicles starts with the naming of those who returned from Babylon.
The key passage of these four books is probably 2 Chronicles 7:11-27 with verse 14 as the key. “Then if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and restore their land.” God said this at the height of their religious fervor so why is He giving this warning? We need to look deep inside us to ask “what does this mean to me”?
