Solomon spent a lot of time in this chapter on negative topics. But maybe the reason God inspired him to write this is not to accuse us of committing these things but to warn us to look out for people or situations these verses describe.Verse 17 hit home with me. “Yanking a dog’s ear is no more foolish than interfering in an argument that isn’t any of your business.” In the 1950’s, a man went into a bar after work to enjoy a beer or two before going home. Two other men in the bar got into an argument and went outside to fight. The first
man, a Christian, followed the fighters outside to try to calm the situation;
instead of solving the problem, he was killed. That man was my uncle.We tend to read through the scripture quickly just to say we did it. I have read through Proverbs many times in my life, but this is the first time I grasped the meaning of verse 17 and its implication on my life experience. Meditating on God’s word is important, and I find that for me it means reading the same chapter several times until God opens my mind to get me to see what He is saying.
