“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.” (verse 7). This psalm tells us how God created climate change more than once to rescue Israel from Egypt. The writer used figurative language to describe what actually happened, but he does tell us some of the things God did to change the climate.
What were these climate change issues God performed in Egypt?
- He changed the Nile River into blood plus in the water in the wooden and stone containers in houses. Exodus 7
- He created a plague of frogs. Exodus 8
- He created a plague of gnats. Exodus 8
- He created a plague of flies. Exodus 8
- He created a plague on the livestock. Exodus 9
- He created a plague of boils on people. Exodus 9
- He created a plague of hail. Exodus 9
- He created a plague of locust. Exodus 10
- He created a plague of darkness for 3 days. Exodus 10
- He created a plague of death. Exodus 12
- Finally, God caused the Red Sea to roll back, the wind to dry the ground, and the Israelites walked through unharmed. Exodus 14
Climate changes from God in the desert:
- God changed water from bitter to sweet. Exodus 15
- God provided bread (manna) and quail for food for 40 years. Exodus 16
- God provided water from a rock. Exodus 17
- God created a sinkhole to swallow rebellious leaders. Numbers 16
Other instances when God created climate change.
- The walls of Jericho fell. Joshua 6:20
- King Uzziah usurps priestly functions and is stricken with leprosy. 2 Chronicles 26: 16-21
- The prophet Joel recorded an invasion of locust that had never happened in the history of Israel before. Joel 1:1-3
- Jesus calmed the wind and the sea. Matthew 8:23-27
So, if God controls the climate, why are we seeing climate change today? We are blaming our use of natural resources that God created for our benefit. Perhaps it is because we have not given God the praise for all He has given us. We, all humanity generally, have forgotten God and arrogantly made ourselves the masters of our destiny. We have basically decided either there is no God who is in control or He doesn’t care about us. But maybe, He is trying to get our attention since we cannot control something so great!
