Psalm 117

God wants all the people of the world to worship Him.  The psalm writer here expresses what exactly God wants to the best of his human ability: “For His unfailing love for us is powerful; the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever”.

Throughout the Bible, we can read about God’s love for all humans.  God sees all of us as one race – the human race.  Galatians 3:26-29 states, “For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.  And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.  There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female.  For you are all one in Christ Jesus.  And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham.  You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.”

Paul tells us again in Ephesians 3:6, “And this is God’s plan, both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children.  Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.”  Unfortunately, it is a natural tendency of people to see others with different skin color, ethnic features or backgrounds as not equal to them.  Even Christians can have these feelings because of what they were taught or how they were raised.  These feelings are definitely not appropriate for God’s children.

Jesus told us several things about love that we so often fail doing.  He said, Love your enemies.”  He also said, “Love your neighbor as yourself”; He said this was equally important to loving God.  (Matt.22:36-40).  And Jesus told His disciples and us, “So now I am giving you a new commandment; Love each other.  Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.  Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples.”  (John 13:34-35).

How can I love my enemies, my neighbors, and other Christians as Jesus loves me?  I can’t, I am a miserable failure.  I must let Christ love them through me because my strength and ability are not enough.
