This psalm has 26 verses, and each verse ends with the words, “His faithful love endures forever”. David may have written this psalm or it may have been one of his appointees: “Heman, Jeduthun, and the other chosen by name to give thanks to the Lord for ‘His faithful love endures forever’.” (1 Chronicles 16:41)
In Genesis 1, we can see a list of reasons we should praise God for; some of these are included in this psalm.
Verses 1-2, God created the heavens and the earth.
Verses 3-5, God created light, separated light from darkness calling them day and night.
Verses 6-8, God separated water and called the separation sky.
Verses 9-13, God caused water to flow into one place creating dry ground calling it land and creating vegetation of plants and trees producing fruits, nuts, and vegetables.
Verses 14-19, God created the sun, moon, and stars to separate day from night.
Verses 20-23, God created life in the sea and in the air.
Verses 24-27, God created ground animals and humans.
Verses 28-31, God created everything for the benefit and use of humans.
Each day of creation was because God wanted to create people to share His love with. He created and gave us everything we could ever want or need. His only stipulation was we couldn’t eat the fruit of a particular tree. Guess what? We ate the forbidden fruit! So what happened to God’s love for us?
“For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him. There is no judgment against anyone who believes in Him. But anyone who does not believe in Him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.” (John 3:16-18)
Through His birth, perfect life, death, and resurrection, Jesus not only became like us but lived so that God the Father would accept His death as payment for everyone’s sin. In His resurrection, we have the hope (a sure hope) of eternal life. This comes by our faith in what Jesus did for us and nothing else! The Old Testament believers looked forward to the coming of the sacrifice through their religious services. In the Old Testament sacrifices, especially the Passover and Atonement sacrifices, they saw the promise. If they gave praise for the future event, shouldn’t we believers give praise every day to God for what was accomplished through our Lord Jesus Christ.
