David again wrote a wonderful psalm. Perhaps as he grew older, he realized more and more the wonderful grace of God.
In verses 1-6, David recognized that he was always on God’s mind and in God’s vision. He was so insightful in his concept of God. Many times we do not recognize God’s watching over us as we make mistakes in life. Sometimes our thoughts are, “God if You knew that much about me, why did You let me make stupid mistakes?”
In verses 7-12, David acknowledged that he could not escape God’s presence. Wherever I am You are there with me, O God! There is nothing I can do or anywhere I can go that You are not there to guide me and strengthen me to endure the hardships of life. Whether David was facing Goliath, hiding from Saul, committing adultery with Bathsheba, or running from his son, Absalom, God was always present.
In verses 13-18, David recognized the presence of God even as he was created and developing in his mother’s womb. God had taken sperm and egg to make a child, a child who would be the ancestor of the Messiah.
In verses 19-22, David questioned why God allowed the wicked. “God, don’t you know this world would be much better without evil people? Why don’t You kill them?” David wrote, “Yes, I hate them with total hatred for Your enemies are my enemies.”
In verses 23-24, David asked God to search him and point out anything that “offends You”. We don’t know what God’s answer was, but what if these thoughts crossed our minds? What do you think God would say to you?
I was having a great difficulty with someone and was facing an unwinnable battle. I had anger in my heart bordering on hatred. Then, God said to me, “Why don’t you start praying for that person?” Wow, that took me by surprise. But I did start praying for that person, and God removed all the anger in my heart. Now, I don’t mind being around that person at all, and I am at peace!
