Psalm 14

“Only fools say in their hearts, ‘there is no God’. They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!” Verse 1 (NLT). While David wrote this, God is the one who said it. As Christians, Jesus told us not to judge other people because God is their judge. It is our job to tell them what God said in as un-offensive way as possible.

But why do people reject God and the work of Christ on the cross? There are two reasons: (1) the hardest thing for anyone to do is to admit that he or she is a sinner in need of a savior and only the Holy Spirit can convince them; (2) Paul gave us the reason why (1) is true, “if the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the good news. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God”. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 (NLT).

This psalm describes the whole human race from God’s perspective. We do not see ourselves the way God sees us. As humans, we think of ourselves and friends as fairly good people; we make mistakes but most of us don’t see ourselves as evil. And truthfully, most people will not read the Bible or attend church because we really don’t want to know what God says about us. After all, most of us aren’t murderers, bank robbers or people who do terrible things.

The solution is we must pray for God to bring a great awakening to the world. We must pray for the Holy Spirit to work in people’s lives to let them see themselves from God’s eyes. Only God can change the world just as He was the only one who could change us.
