Psalm 2

As Christians, we sometimes worry about what is in the news. In 1939, it was about the Nazis in Europe; in the late 1940’s through the 1980’s, it was the Communists, and today it is about new diseases or a war somewhere that keeps us unsettled. It seems there have been problems for a long time.

The psalmist saw the same problems 3,000 years ago. Looking at the world around him, he asked , “Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans?” We think they are angry with other nations over territorial boundaries, governmental philosophies or some reason we can’t understand. But the real reason for the tensions of anger, fear, and war is the evil that is in all human beings and their desire to “break their chains and free ourselves from slavery to God”. But God laughs and scoffs at their foolishness.

What is the answer to the turmoil on earth? God points to His only Son as the answer to man’s problems. He says to the rulers (and everyone else) to “act wisely. . .serve the Lord with reverent fear. . .and submit to God’s royal Son.” Verses 10-12 (NLT). “For the Lord declares, ‘I have placed My chosen King on the throne in Jerusalem, on My holy mountain’.” Verse 6(NLT). God is speaking today of the Lord Jesus Christ inviting all to enter His kingdom which is the church triumphant.

To find out what God wants on this earth, read Isaiah 2:1-5.
