“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.” Verses 3-5 (NLT). David probably wrote this when he was king and a little older; it takes time and experience to realize what David describes in this psalm.
David addressed a problem every person experiences in life: worry, frustration, and anger. These three things can take up so much of our thought life that we can’t concentrate on real solutions, it can affect our prayer life, and it can keep us from listening to God speaking to us. David continued to describe why when these things come into our lives we should look to God and not to the situation.
Paul also dealt with this when he wrote to the church at Philippi. Evidently something was happening in the church that needed to be addressed. “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6-7 (NLT).
