Psalm 62

David may have written this psalm when he fled from Absalom. He refers to himself as a “broken-down wall or tottering fence”; he also said of his enemies, “they plan to topple me from my high position”. What high position did he hold other than as king?

In verse 9, David wrote about depending on people to support and sustain him. “Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be”. He was not belittling these people; he was only talking about their ability to intervene on his behalf. So, if human help was next to worthless, what could David hope in?

Throughout this psalm, David said his hope was in God. In verses 1-2, he stated that he would “wait quietly before God”. He would not worry; he had turned it over to God, and he would not not lose sleep with worry. How could he not worry under the circumstances? Because he knew his victory came from God. He declared God was his rock, his salvation, and his fortress. In verses 5-8, David again states God is his hope, his rock, salvation, and fortress, therefore, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God”. He also said, “My victory and honor come from God alone”. Then he encourages his people to trust in God at all times.

Unfortunately, we have a tendency to think we can and/or must solve all our problems. I have spent many sleepless nights and stress filled days because I lacked trust in God’s working in my life.
