Psalm 63

It is impossible to know the circumstances David was experiencing, but he was seeking something more than life offered. He was seeking God; fellowship with God.

Can you remember the experience you had when you first trusted Christ for salvation? Do you remember that feeling of closeness to God? But then, we sinned and that sin made us feel so apart from God, and we want that experience to return. Then, Satan whispers in our ear and hints, “How can you be a Christian and do such things”. And after a period of time, we have so much guilt inside, we don’t feel that closeness to God. And that is so different from God’s desire.

In John 4, we read where Jesus met a woman by the well in Samaria. In their discussion about wells, Jesus compared a well with water for human consumption they had to draw from with a spiritual well, an artesian well, with water that “becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life”.

So what do we need to do to get that fresh, bubbling spring again? First, in 1 John 1:7-9, John tells us, “the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleans us from all wickedness”.

Second, instead of dwelling on our past failures, we need to do what David did. He admitted that without God’s presence in his life, it was like living in a “parched and weary land where there is no water”. David said, “I earnestly search for You. My soul thirsts for You; my whole body longs for You”. “I have seen You in Your sanctuary and gazed upon Your power and glory”; possibly a reference to his salvation experience. Then in verses 3-11, he praises God, and our praise is what God wants most from His people.

That spring of living water is not far from any of us. We need to thank Him for our salvation, but we most of all need to thank Him for Who He is: God Almighty Who made the universe and every thing in it; Who gives us purpose for being here; and Who loves us, and everyone else, so much that He sent His one and only Son to become like us, to die for us, and to be raised from the dead to give us the hope of eternal life.

LET US PRAISE HIM!!!
