David learned fairly early in life what some people never learn. The thing God wants most from His people is praise, and David wrote a beautiful psalm of praise in these verses. He began and ended with the same praise: “O Lord, our Lord Your majestic name fills the earth”!
David then recited all the things God has made including humans, and he asked what are humans that You think about them and care for them. “Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.” David said this because he recognized the fact that God created humans in His own image. David was familiar with and believed the creation account in Genesis 1. Then, he added how God gave humans charge of “everything You made”.
What practical application can this have for us today? One example is regarding life and death. How strange it is today that we humans have decided we shouldn’t kill pets that have been neglected, abused or turned over to shelters. Yet, it is okay to destroy human babies in the womb who are made in God’s image.
