What a way to start and end each day. “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praise to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning and your faithfulness in the evening accompanied by” music. When I was in the 9th grade, I attended a concert and fell in love with classical music. It would relax me and cause me to go to sleep; it was so peaceful. After that, I fell in love with the contemporary style of Christian music in the 1960’s. Christian music can help us lift our hearts to God in praise.
The psalmist tells us how to praise God. “You thrill me, Lord. . .I sing for you because of what You have done. What great works You do! And how deep are Your thoughts.” We would be much happier people if we began and ended each day with praise to God. Many times, life is tough, and we don’t always understand why. But God has said He would never leave us nor forsake us; how could He forsake us when He dwells within us even in our sins and failures. But as human beings, we get involved so much we don’t think about praising God. Our jobs take up about 50 percent of our waking hours with family and other things taking the remaining time.
We don’t know the author’s name, but he probably lived in Jerusalem and was in the habit of attending the morning and evening sacrifices at the Temple. But the New Testament church does not have a Temple where God dwells. Paul tells us, “Don’t you realize your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, Who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price.” 1 Cor. 6:19-20. So, we are free to worship God any time or anywhere; we don’t have to wait until we “go to church”.
And because the Holy Spirit lives in us, we are encouraged to come boldly before God. “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.” Heb. 4:16. The writer of this psalm writes about our growing strong and flourishing. “Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they (God’s people) will remain vital and green.” Psalm 92:14.
