It is often asked, “Why do you believe the Bible is God’s Word?” There are many books in the world that claim to be the answer to man’s questions. It is because the Bible answers life’s real questions better than any other book.
Question 1. Who am I? The Bible’s answer – I am an individual made in the image of God. “Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image, to be like ourselves. They will reign over the fish of the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.’ So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Gen 1:26-27 (NLT).
Question 2. Where did I come from? The Bible’s answer – I was created by God, both my ancestors and me. Gen 1:26-27 and “The Lord gave me this message: ‘I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:4-5 (NLT). “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.” John 1:1-4 (NLT).
Question 3. Why am I here? The Bible’s answer – I was created to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. “When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?'” Gen 3:8-9 (NLT) “When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.” Gen 5:21-24 (NLT).
Question 4. Where am I going? The Bible’s answer – I am going to spend eternity somewhere; life is more than just the here and now. “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4 (NLT). John also tells us: “The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.” John 20:30-31 (NLT).
What other book exists in the world that answers these four questions in such an understandable way?
